Description

{"ops":[{"insert":"First iteration of the Peace Offering precon with some upgrades. Heading in a more political direction. A lot to be refined still.\n\nSo, it's my opinion that Ms. Bumbleflower may be the best \"group hug\" commander that's ever been printed. \nThat's largely because all hugging is targeted, and therefore controllable - as well as being capable of handing out power and evasion to progress the board state.\n\nThis leaves us in a position where our gameplan is not to provide \"blanket\" group hug, but tactically apply our gifts in a way to direct the flow of a game into a position where we come out on top. \nThere are comparisons that can be drawn to the 'Aikido' playstyle, and we are very much adjacent to that - though we do suffer from a lack of red and it's respective aikido finishers ("},{"insert":{"card-link":"Deflecting Palm"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Insurrection"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Acidic Soil"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Delirium"}},{"insert":" etc.), as well as the big loss of "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Sunforger"}},{"insert":" .\n\nWhat we lose in \"gotcha\" cards, Bumbleflower helps make up in board presence and consistent draw, as well as giving us extremely good colours to support a control plan.\n\nThe basic plan is to endorse our weakest opponent(s) at any one point on the table, and be their benefactor in levelling the strongest opponent at any given point - all while doing our best to appear nonthreatening, altering where we're applying our aid as the game state changes. This is inherently an extremely political playstyle and you and your playgroups disposition are going to make a big difference on whether or not this is effective in any given game.\n\nWe intentionally choose to eschew most \"each opponent draws\" effects in our deck unless they inherently break parity to a large degree (such as "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Struggle for Project Purity"}},{"insert":" ), as mentioned - we want to help specific opponents, not the whole table (and certainly not the combo player).\n\nWe also have a lot of effects that help break parity on our group hug in general ("},{"insert":{"card-link":"Faerie Mastermind"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Trouble in Pairs"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Smuggler's Share"}},{"insert":" ). \n\nWe have similar strengths to a traditional aikido deck, and thrive against board-based strategies but can struggle against more \"uninteractive\" strategies such as aristocrats or combo. We do have the benefit of blue, which helps considerably in helping to manage combos, and we might consider investing in a stronger counter magic suite down the line (or if your meta is more combo-focused, you can certainly tune your version of the deck as appropriate).\nI've chosen to forego almost any card that draws attention to the deck, including stax-y pieces such as "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Hushbringer"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Rest in Peace"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Hushwing Gryff"}},{"insert":" - but if you're in a meta with a large aristocrat presence, it may be worth including some of these.\n\nOn the subject of not drawing attention to ourselves, we've also foregone any infinite combos and any \"I win\" cards (with the exception of "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Twenty-Toed Toad"}},{"insert":" , as I'm currently testing him (I'm always sure to emphasise the lack of haste in the deck and announce my cards in hand if they get close to 20 as to make it as unintimidating as possible to the table!).\nYou could add these win cons, but I feel they come with considerable political baggage - it's hard to convince your opponents that you're not the threat when you can win out of nowhere, your perceived weakness is one of this decks greatest strengths, and one of the things that will keep opponents willing to work with you.)\n\nThat does lead us to the question of - \"How do we win?\", and it's very valid, in trying to be perceived as weak, we do leave ourselves lighter than most decks on our ability to push through a win. This is where Bumbleflower herself can do some serious work - by the end-stages of the game, if our plan has gone well, we will have hopefully had the remaining players at the table grind themselves to reasonable life totals and accumulated resources to head into the 1v1. \nBumbleflower offering both power and evasion means we can often find the power to push through an \"honest\" win, especially if we have a double strike enabler like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Duelist's Heritage"}},{"insert":" or "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Trostani, Three Whispers"}},{"insert":" on board.\nThis is probably how most of your wins will be earned if you've managed to direct the game well enough to that point.\n\nWe do have a couple of aikido-spirited wins in the deck, however. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Reins of Power"}},{"insert":" can essentially double as a 4 mana "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Insurrection"}},{"insert":" in the 1v1 against a deck that has considerably more board presence than us, and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Narset's Reversal"}},{"insert":" is capable of blowing out spell-slingy or big-mana wincons ("},{"insert":{"card-link":"Torment of Hailfire"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Meteor Shower"}},{"insert":" etc.). Most of these cards are one-ofs and we don't run ways to tutor for them, so if you expect you might need one for the win, be patient with it if you draw it throughout the game - it's often worth holding it for the endgame, and what you draw may influence which opponent you want to \"endorse\" to take with you to the endgame.\n\nI would also like to give a shout-out to the new card "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Perch Protection"}},{"insert":" , I feel like it's been unfairly toted as the \"bad\" "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Teferi's Protection"}},{"insert":" , but I think people should see the extra turn as part of the primary effect and not the downside. The political leverage giving someone an extra turn is huge, and so is the ability to let someone take an extra turn out of turn order (since its instant). Every time I've resolved this spell it's changed the direction of the game.\nCombo player about to go off? Let the aggro player take another turn before their untap to take care of the problem for you.\nAn opponent tapped out as the token deck is about to untap? Give them a turn to dig themselves out of their hole and make an ally for the rest of the game.\nIt's hard to quantify the exact usefulness of this card in a few examples, but play with it creatively and play with it politically, and you'll probably find yourself as impressed by it as I've been.\n(Note that it is *sort of* a nonbo with "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Trouble in Pairs"}},{"insert":" , as it prevents opponents taking extra turns - at this point it basically does become a more expensive Teferi's that gives us some fliers. That's still reasonably good, and Trouble in Pairs puts in so much work with Bumbleflower that one less-than-ideal interaction is totally fine.).\n\nThis is a hard deck to pilot, and requires good threat assessment and politics (as well as a table that will let you politic) to work - it's exceedingly easy to shoot yourself in the foot, back the wrong opponent or cut the wrong deal - but played well in a meta that meshes well with it, it is an extremely powerful, and usually-underestimated presence. I'm still doing a lot of testing, so I'd expect my list to go through quite a few iterations in the next few weeks, but this is my favourite commander in a long time, I hope you get some enjoyment out of her too!\n"}]}
