You may include lands to cast your commander, but spells and abilities must not require the color you're omitting. As always, decks will be judged on creativity and originality."},{"insert":"\n\nThis contest prompt is inspired by the growing list of commanders that don't require all of their colors to be cast. Commanders like Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, Keruga, the Macrosage, and Jinnie Fay, Jetmir's Second can all helm decks that leave out one color in their identity. Two color decks often have cheaper mana bases, or you might prefer how a deck with fewer colors plays. Some of these commanders also naturally push you to prioritize one color over the others. An Alesha deck with no other red cards can more easily optimize it's mana base to pay for her activated ability. On the other hand, you can build Simic Yasova Dragonclaw to play the rare theft deck without red.\n\nOf course, you can choose any commander for this challenge, not just ones that abridge their own mana costs. This is a great opportunity to push strategies outside of their normal colors while having support from a strong commander. Nethroi, Apex of Death can lead a Selesnya reanimator deck, or a Golgari aggro deck that cheats its smaller attackers into play en masse. Raffine, Scheming Seer could make for an interesting Orzhov or even mono black tempo deck.\n\nPerhaps the easiest route to take is to choose a commander that doesn't need to be cast at all. You can easily build a deck of any color with The Ur-Dragon, and Oloro, Ageless Ascetic has been helming mono white lifegain decks for almost as long as Commander's been around. These commanders tend to be more specific to a creature type or theme, however, so building a creative deck that stands out will be more difficult.\n\nHow To Participate"},{"attributes":{"header":3},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Brew an EDH/Commander legal deck on Archidekt that satisfies the prompt."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Any unreleased cards spoiled during the contest’s duration are allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Silver-bordered and acorn cards, while cool, are not allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Digital-only cards (such as those designed for the Alchemy format on Arena) are not allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Strictly one deck submitted per user."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nReply to the Archidekt newspost, or submission post on the Archidekt Discord with a link to your deck before "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"9:00 pm EST (UTC -5, currently)"},{"insert":" on "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Wednesday, April 9, 2025"},{"insert":" (do not submit the same deck in multiple places).\n\nOnly one submission per user! This mono-white deck really does one thing well, blinks 'Niko, Light of Hope' to make lots and lots.. and LOTS of shard tokens via token multipliers. These shards are a great utility to scry and draw for 1 colorless, or, with Niko's ability, 2 colorless and tap to exile a target non-legendary and they ALL become a copy. Use this to make 38 copies of your favorite angel or bird as the win con. Also has another alt win-con in Halo Fountain.\n\nOf course given Niko's full color identity, I would use things like 'Training Grounds' to reduce the cost of Niko's activated ability, giving you a free tap. Pests are okay for a little bit of incidental life gain (I guess), insects can grow out of control pretty quickly, snakes do all kinds of fun things, and spiders have big butts. I couldn't find any bats in Blex's color identity, so there aren't any in the deck. I've tried to lean into the creature types supported by Blex, and have tried to pick thematically appropriate cards (or art, at least) where possible (Hardened Scales is obviously a snake card, there's clearly a giant moth on Inspiring Call, and what self-respecting bug or spider wouldn't want to hang out in the environment depicted on Doubling Season). I've had to make a few concessions to actual playability (I genuinely can't see a way to pretend that Andúril is spider), but I've tried to keep those to a minimum.\n\nI checked EDHRec to see what other people do with Blex in the command zone---in particular, I was hoping to find some bats---but most of the decks and synergies I can find on EDHRec seem to fall outside of Blex's mono-green color identity. People seem to be running a lot of black cards! There also seems to be a bug (heh heh get it? 'cause insects are bugs!) with Archidekt---sometimes, my commander gets replaced by a weird black card draw / card selection sorcery. Someone should look into that.\n"}]}

{"ops":[{"insert":"Omnath Locus of Absolutely Nothing. \n\nBy removing the only color in this commanders identity, I made Omnath into a colorless artifact/voltron/mana generation deck. There are quite a few interesting synergies between Omnath and all these mana artifacts like doubling cube and extraplanar lens. The deck also uses the mass mana generation relatively efficiently even if omnath can't attack easily yet with cards like Kozilek's Command and Azor's Gateway to keep ramping up without having to be the obvious target. There are also several other creatures that can be good hosts for the equipment's if Omnath is removed.\n\nI decided against the eldrazi titans in favor of a more interesting gameplay loop of being forced to choose between using my unspent green mana as power for Omnath, or to diversify my game plan more via equipments or other threats.\n\nhttps://archidekt.com/decks/12349606/omnath_locus_of_nothing\n"}]}

Shilgengar is as black a creature as they come. He's a heartless demon, but he obtains the ability to use white mana in order to depose and resurrect angelic creatures in a vampiric image.\n\nMechanically, the idea of the deck is to set the table with useful creatures, artifacts, and enchantments that can be used for card draw and protection, ramp into larger angels with ETBs or powerful effects, then blink them to recur the effects, all the while whacking your opponents and getting coincidental lifegain. When you reach critical mass, you can play Shilgengar, and activate his first ability by sacrificing everything (except for your key pieces like Avacyn, Brisela, Archangel of Thune, Battle Angels of Tyr, etc.), then use his second ability to bring everything back, retriggering all of their ETBs.\n"}]}

So, while your opponent is worrying about all the life they are losing and all the tokens you are making, now is the time to swing. With a slew of creatures with effects ranging from treasure creation off of both combat and death triggers, pinging enemies while attacking, and top deck/tutor effect to play even more curses.
