You may include lands to cast your commander, but spells and abilities must not require the color you're omitting. For example, if you choose to build an Izzet deck with Eshki Dragonclaw as your commander, you cannot include any cards that require green mana to cast or use, but you can include green lands to cast Eshki. As always, decks will be judged on creativity and originality."},{"insert":"\n\nThis contest prompt is inspired by the growing list of commanders that don't require all of their colors to be cast. Commanders like Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, Keruga, the Macrosage, and Jinnie Fay, Jetmir's Second can all helm decks that leave out one color in their identity. Two color decks often have cheaper mana bases, or you might prefer how a deck with fewer colors plays. Some of these commanders also naturally push you to prioritize one color over the others. An Alesha deck with no other red cards can more easily optimize it's mana base to pay for her activated ability. On the other hand, you can build Simic Yasova Dragonclaw to play the rare theft deck without red.\n\nOf course, you can choose any commander for this challenge, not just ones that abridge their own mana costs. This is a great opportunity to push strategies outside of their normal colors while having support from a strong commander. Nethroi, Apex of Death can lead a Selesnya reanimator deck, or a Golgari aggro deck that cheats its smaller attackers into play en masse. Raffine, Scheming Seer could make for an interesting Orzhov or even mono black tempo deck.\n\nPerhaps the easiest route to take is to choose a commander that doesn't need to be cast at all. You can easily build a deck of any color with The Ur-Dragon, and Oloro, Ageless Ascetic has been helming mono white lifegain decks for almost as long as Commander's been around. These commanders tend to be more specific to a creature type or theme, however, so building a creative deck that stands out will be more difficult.\n\nHow To Participate"},{"attributes":{"header":3},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Brew an EDH/Commander legal deck on Archidekt that satisfies the prompt."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Any unreleased cards spoiled during the contest’s duration are allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Silver-bordered and acorn cards, while cool, are not allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Digital-only cards (such as those designed for the Alchemy format on Arena) are not allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Strictly one deck submitted per user."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nReply to the Archidekt newspost, or submission post on the Archidekt Discord with a link to your deck before "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"9:00 pm EST (UTC -5, currently)"},{"insert":" on "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Wednesday, April 9, 2025"},{"insert":" (do not submit the same deck in multiple places).\n\nOnly one submission per user! {"ops":[{"attributes":{"link":"https://archidekt.com/decks/12289542/ghyrsons_goblin_gang"},"insert":"Ghyrson's Goblin Gang"},{"insert":" - Mono-Red Ghyrson Starn\n\nFor this challenge, Ghyrson Starn took over Tin-Street and is now running the show. We're running a mono-red Ghyrson Starn Goblin deck focused on getting 1/1 goblins out to and pushing damage through combat. First and foremost - and I can't stress this enough - Ghyrson Starn's ability synergizes with goblins so incredibly well, as it forces our opponents into a lose-lose decision about whether to block a goblin and potentially lose a creature, or take 3 damage to their face which will quickly get out of hand.\n\nBy forgoing blue, we lose access to a lot of protection, token support, and draw, but it also opens us up to be aggressive with burn and removal. In total, we have 11 spells that do 1 damage to all creatures opponents (or an opponent) control, which of course is 3 damage when Ghyrson Starn is out. In fact nearly all of our removal is either modal or hits multiple targets, so we rarely take bad trades. \n\nTo help give us gas, we're running Skullclamp (which has some neat synergy with Pashilik Mons) in addition to two battles that transform into something that synergizes with the rest of our plans and a suite of standard mono-red draw spells. There's also a surprising amount of ramp with treasure tokens as a result of these, in addition to cards like Battle Hymn and your standard artifacts. And finally, we have three tutors in Goblin Matron, Goblin Recruiter, and Imperial Recruiter to help ensure we're finding our most impactful goblins. Our number one goal is to find a Krenko, Tin-Street Kingpin, as it helps empower each of our possible win cons, which include: \nGo--wide goblin boards. Again, Ghyrson Starn supports the goblins by making blocking unattractive, as blocking a 1/1 means they're taking 3 damage to that creature, encouraging our opponents to take the damage and take 3 to the face. If players continue to sac creatures to block goblins, they eventually run out of creatures to threaten anything. The original list ran into several issues: too many creatures, not enough sac outlets, and Atla Palani got removed too many times to be worth re-casting (can't possibly imagine why). Several of the angels have conditional stax effects. The deck wants to win by slowly beating people down until the day of judgement. \n\nSo. I don't submit this deck thinking I'm the only one who's ever built an Atla Palani deck full of angels. It was a really fun challenge streamlining this deck to not only function but "},{"attributes":{"underline":true},"insert":"thrive "},{"insert":"as a Boros deck. I still love barfing value, don't get me wrong. I kept a couple \"populate\" pieces for a reason. But in this here house we're barfing Angels. \n"}]}

I only pondered for a moment whether to cut blue or green from this deck, because one look at Ian's nasty countenance told me all I needed to know. Blue, the colour that most closely resembles a shower, does not belong here. So I set to work building this little deck with a fun little graveyard theme that leans heavily on its commander to fill up the graveyard and our hand. There's a lot of flexibility here, with the amount of ramp we run getting us to our commander early, and allowing us to cast big spells quickly. We can make our opponents suffer with some big, nasty creatures, and if they happen to remove them, we've got plenty of ways to bring them right back! Oh, and I put a Toxrill in here, because we can cast it without blue, and it gives us one extra \"ew, gross\" for this deck themed around bathing abstinence.\n"}]}

Technically you can make more copies of auras with Feather, but with Shiko and Narset, you don't have to spend any extra mana. The plan of this deck is to use the flurry copy to make token copies of auras. There are many benefits to copying auras instead of instants and sorceries. Some auras have ETB abilities, and a lot of cards care about auras and/or enchantments entering the battlefield, so making extra token copies amplifies those abilities. \n\nThis deck functions really well as just Boros. Blue would only really help with card draw, but white has all the best card advantage pieces that care about auras and enchantments anyway, and even though Shiko and Narset have a blue pip, they perfectly support this Boros aura strategy, already coming with flying and vigilance and having the ability to copy auras. \n\nThe best card in this deck by far is Frontline Heroism. It lets you copy auras an extra time whenever you cast one. Moon-Blessed Cleric will pretty much always search for that. Ghostly Dancers and Archon of Sun's Grace are also super valuable cards in this deck. With the extra aura token copies, they will make that many more flying creature tokens. The aura token copies also contribute to the auras that give more toughness and power based on the number of auras you control like Ethereal Armor, so if we find any of those, whatever creatures we put them on will be super buff. \n\nAnother neat trick in this deck is the removal. Of course we can make copies of Sheltered by Ghosts or Minimus Containment to remove extra problematic permanents, but we also have a couple boardwipes that happen to target a creature. Both Waltz of Rage and Chandra's Ignition target a single creature you control, so you can copy those spells with Shiko and Narset. This means it is easier to reach lethal range with Chandra's Ignition, especially with auras like Ethereal Armor, and a copied Waltz of Rage can impulse draw twice as many cards. \n"}]}
