You may include lands to cast your commander, but spells and abilities must not require the color you're omitting. For example, if you choose to build an Izzet deck with Eshki Dragonclaw as your commander, you cannot include any cards that require green mana to cast or use, but you can include green lands to cast Eshki. As always, decks will be judged on creativity and originality."},{"insert":"\n\nThis contest prompt is inspired by the growing list of commanders that don't require all of their colors to be cast. Commanders like Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, Keruga, the Macrosage, and Jinnie Fay, Jetmir's Second can all helm decks that leave out one color in their identity. Two color decks often have cheaper mana bases, or you might prefer how a deck with fewer colors plays. Some of these commanders also naturally push you to prioritize one color over the others. An Alesha deck with no other red cards can more easily optimize it's mana base to pay for her activated ability. On the other hand, you can build Simic Yasova Dragonclaw to play the rare theft deck without red.\n\nOf course, you can choose any commander for this challenge, not just ones that abridge their own mana costs. This is a great opportunity to push strategies outside of their normal colors while having support from a strong commander. Nethroi, Apex of Death can lead a Selesnya reanimator deck, or a Golgari aggro deck that cheats its smaller attackers into play en masse. Raffine, Scheming Seer could make for an interesting Orzhov or even mono black tempo deck.\n\nPerhaps the easiest route to take is to choose a commander that doesn't need to be cast at all. You can easily build a deck of any color with The Ur-Dragon, and Oloro, Ageless Ascetic has been helming mono white lifegain decks for almost as long as Commander's been around. These commanders tend to be more specific to a creature type or theme, however, so building a creative deck that stands out will be more difficult.\n\nHow To Participate"},{"attributes":{"header":3},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Brew an EDH/Commander legal deck on Archidekt that satisfies the prompt."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Any unreleased cards spoiled during the contest’s duration are allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Silver-bordered and acorn cards, while cool, are not allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Digital-only cards (such as those designed for the Alchemy format on Arena) are not allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Strictly one deck submitted per user."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nReply to the Archidekt newspost, or submission post on the Archidekt Discord with a link to your deck before "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"9:00 pm EST (UTC -5, currently)"},{"insert":" on "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Wednesday, April 9, 2025"},{"insert":" (do not submit the same deck in multiple places).\n\nOnly one submission per user! However, Rograkh never requires red mana, so it technically fits within the wording of the prompt. \"You may include lands to cast your commander, but spells and abilities must not require the color you're omitting.\" The best part? Rograkh's inclusion isn't just a gimmick, but actually works towards the plan of the deck!"},{"attributes":{"list":"ordered"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Why 'cheat' like this? For an honest character like Kellan, this is the exact kind of torment a cursed blade should do. And what better color to hand a cursed weapon to than mono white? The deck then revolves around slowly building this Equipment through the sacrifice of 'Virtuous Souls'.\n\nKellan can be used to either feed the sword or as a target to equip as his inherent double strike pairs well with the +2/+0 statline provided by the sword. Either Kellan, for Commander damage, or a 'Legendary Swordsman's can equip the weapon to start gaining advantage. \n\nKellan, Shrike Force, and Mirran Crusader can all be used to give the 'Eater of Virtues' Double Strike., which pushes some of the 'On player damage's triggers even further in cards like \"Ancient Gold Dragon\" and \"Zeriam, Golden Wing\".\n\n\"Loran's Escape\" and \"Blacksmith Skill\" are generally held to save the Secret Commander from Removal for 1 mana. The deck is vulnerable to removal of \"Eater of Virtues\", but that is the inherent risk of running a Secret Commander. Backup Plan is either Commander damage out of Kellan or Odric to share the Keywords among creatures in the deck.\n\nThe deck did take a hit from not running red. Red's impulse draw and loot would've been a big boon for the deck, along with better access to haste and trample for the sword.\n\n"}]}

I haven't played Fallout, so I don't know much about her, but after briefly reading an article I know that she was part of a team of scientists working on something called project purity, which had the goal of purifying water of radiation. A big thing as well is Dr. Madison Li is a draw engine. With this deck you're making a minimum of one energy per turn, and often more, and so you're almost always tapping her whenever you can to spend three energy counters to draw a card.\nBeing a colorless deck, you do struggle with interaction targeting the combo. We only have one counterspell ("},{"insert":{"card-link":"Not of This World"}},{"insert":"), and it will cost 7 mana most of the time. But luckily Dr. Madison Li pulls double duty. A lot of popular removal in commander for your artifacts won't exile them, so you can use the five energy counter option on your commander to bring your removed artifact right back to the battlefield. And even if your Walking Ballista get's path to exiled before you pop off, just go back and find your backup wincon, "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Blightsteel Colossus"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Cybermen Squadron"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Flight Spellbomb"}},{"insert":", coupled with Dr. Li's first ability to win in perhaps an even more flashier way.\nI hope you all enjoy this deck. While it does get estimated by archidekt to be placed into bracket 4 (and rightfully so due to the combo), it also has some definite limitations being a colorless deck. As such, I believe with the right play group this could be brought to a quasi casual table and everyone still have a good time. Because lets be honest, the whole reason I hope anyone is playing Magic is to just have a fun time. \n"}]}

Her main focus is on thopter creation, and having big payoffs specifically centered around her first sacrifice ability--dealing 3 damage to target player. To compound this effect and provide extra oomph, the deck is filled with death triggers in black and damage additions and multipliers in red. Why deal 3 damage when you could do 9 to one person, then drain the whole table for 2x Zulaport Cutthroat and Bastion of Remembrance triggers? If Wound Reflection is on the field, then combined with those effects, you're looking at half of someone's health total from one activation! Throw in cards with affinity for artifacts like Thought Monitor and wicked abilities to take advantage of regular sacrificing like Grave Pact, then your adorable, Trojan-horse thopters and their propensity for exploding will keep your hand full, your opponent's boards clear, and victory in your crosshairs as you bask in your burn.\n"}]}

I recently found this commander but didn't have a reason to build them till I saw this challenge. I thought to myself, what if I chose a mono colored commander and made the deck colorless. This deck it built around a mixture of cheap and expensive artifacts. There are some cheap artifact mana-dorks to double as ramp and discounts for Chiss and the cards they exile. Then there are some large artifacts and X spells to capitalize on the affinity for artifacts. It has a decently sizable ramp package of 16 (not including affinity). The deck's focus is to get Chiss down as soon as possible and copy their ability to dump high cost artifacts onto the field. Recently I have been making a bunch of budget decks so it was nice to let loose and build a deck while not worrying about budget.\n"}]}
