You may include lands to cast your commander, but spells and abilities must not require the color you're omitting. For example, if you choose to build an Izzet deck with Eshki Dragonclaw as your commander, you cannot include any cards that require green mana to cast or use, but you can include green lands to cast Eshki. As always, decks will be judged on creativity and originality."},{"insert":"\n\nThis contest prompt is inspired by the growing list of commanders that don't require all of their colors to be cast. Commanders like Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, Keruga, the Macrosage, and Jinnie Fay, Jetmir's Second can all helm decks that leave out one color in their identity. Two color decks often have cheaper mana bases, or you might prefer how a deck with fewer colors plays. Some of these commanders also naturally push you to prioritize one color over the others. An Alesha deck with no other red cards can more easily optimize it's mana base to pay for her activated ability. On the other hand, you can build Simic Yasova Dragonclaw to play the rare theft deck without red.\n\nOf course, you can choose any commander for this challenge, not just ones that abridge their own mana costs. This is a great opportunity to push strategies outside of their normal colors while having support from a strong commander. Nethroi, Apex of Death can lead a Selesnya reanimator deck, or a Golgari aggro deck that cheats its smaller attackers into play en masse. Raffine, Scheming Seer could make for an interesting Orzhov or even mono black tempo deck.\n\nPerhaps the easiest route to take is to choose a commander that doesn't need to be cast at all. You can easily build a deck of any color with The Ur-Dragon, and Oloro, Ageless Ascetic has been helming mono white lifegain decks for almost as long as Commander's been around. These commanders tend to be more specific to a creature type or theme, however, so building a creative deck that stands out will be more difficult.\n\nHow To Participate"},{"attributes":{"header":3},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Brew an EDH/Commander legal deck on Archidekt that satisfies the prompt."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Any unreleased cards spoiled during the contest’s duration are allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Silver-bordered and acorn cards, while cool, are not allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Digital-only cards (such as those designed for the Alchemy format on Arena) are not allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Strictly one deck submitted per user."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nReply to the Archidekt newspost, or submission post on the Archidekt Discord with a link to your deck before "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"9:00 pm EST (UTC -5, currently)"},{"insert":" on "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Wednesday, April 9, 2025"},{"insert":" (do not submit the same deck in multiple places).\n\nOnly one submission per user! {"ops":[{"insert":"MARDU KENRITH/ZIRDA REANIMATOR\n https://archidekt.com/decks/12410267/kenrithzirda_reanimator\n\nWhen I first read the archidekt prompt my first idea was Kenrith Returned King because he can be any colors and has activated abilities that can support any deck and be good. Unfortunately the first few variations of Kenrith decks felt like they were just good stuff piles that didn't use the commander much. I was just scrapping a Sultai build, but I was scrapping it because the reanimate activated ability was just too much mana and the deck was basically a Muldrotha deck. But then I had what I thought was a great idea, running Zirda with Kenrith to reduce the cost. This was a pretty hard build and the land base isn't as clean as it would be if I had more time. One criteria I had for myself was to use by commander, because Kenrith is notorious for just being their to make a 5 color deck and not doing anything, and because my previous Kenrith brews hadn't really used him at all. I hope you enjoy this deck!! Happy brewing\n"}]}

General Ferrous Rokiric is a two colour commander that cares about casting multicoloured spells. What happens when you take a colour out of the deck? You throw as many hybrid cards at it as possible, but you are only ever casting them with white mana.\n\nIt turns out there are a lot of horrible hybrid RW cards! I couldn't even run those that have hybrid and full red pips, which narrowed the pool down further. There also isn't much in the way of ramp or card draw in the hybrid cards, so a bunch of mana rocks and monoW card draw effects, many of which stick to the artifact/token theme of the commander himself, help to round out the deck and make it \"functional\".\n\nI even made sure that no red pips appear in the land base, so aggressive mulliganing to find one of the gold lands so you can cast Rokiric may be necessary. A few white protection spells help to keep him around - he's imperative to the game plan!\n\nYou won't be winning many games , it might not even be fun to play, but it was a good thought experiment!\n"}]}

Then I realized that deck idea sucked, while testing I realize it was super inconsistent and would never work in an actual game because you actually need to do damage and in commander there is a lot of life. (I can release the private view on the two attempts if that is what people want)\n\nSo, when going into building this deck I wanted to keep the colors to a minimum (Used green and colorless besides the commander) to see how far I can take this color less deckbuilding idea going. The idea is to get Atla out asap, sac or kill one of her eggs and then bring out the big beefy eldrazi/ artifact creatures like turn 4. In testing it was decently consistent as long as you mulligan. I actually like the deck idea so much I may build one without the restriction. \n"}]}

I love their blue/red identity, and all the fun theft shenanigans you can get away with. but what if you look at a pirate who doesn't use blue or red? Enter Xavier's counter deck. Our terrifying pirate captain interacts with counters in two very fun ways, the main and arguably most powerful of which is to proliferate them, but you can also use him to remove counters, and what counter did they put in the same set he was printed in that you would prefer not to have on your creature? The finality counter. This deck is based around the classic Golgari strategy of milling yourself and then reanimating big threats, but with a fun twist of focusing on ways to remove finality counters so you can loop things that were designed not to be looped. For my card pool I tried to mainly focus on cards from our captains plain or cards that fit with the generally spooky theme of some of our favorite reanimators, but what is more important to me than staying on a tight theme is building a deck that is fun to pilot and fun to sit across the table from. Over all I am happy with how the deck turned out, and i hope y'all can enjoy playtesting with it. \n\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Xavier Sal, Infested Captain"}},{"insert":" \n"}]}

Built around Nethroi, Apex of Death, it emphasizes resilience and board presence while excluding black cards to honor the contest's challenge. The deck features a strong reanimation theme, with cards like Eternal Witness, Sun Titan, and Faith's Reward ensuring your key pieces can always return from the graveyard.\nThe game plan focuses on early ramp using staples like Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, and Exploration to set up for impactful plays. It excels at controlling the board state with removal and utility pieces like Aura Shards, Reclamation Sage, and Swords to Plowshares. There is also the possiblity of being able to set up my infinite combo consisting of Magus of the Candelabra, Staff of Domination, and Mana Reflection. The deck's late game closes out through massive battlefield swings with cards like Avenger of Zendikar, Archangel of Thune, and Craterhoof Behemoth, or strategic alternate-win options like Approach of the Second Sun.\nResilience is key—protection from board wipes and removal is provided by cards like Heroic Intervention, Shalai, Voice of Plenty, and Avacyn, Angel of Hope.
