Three chosen finalists will be awarded store credit to cardsphere.com.\n\n"},{"attributes":{"italic":true,"bold":true},"insert":"For April's deckbuilding contest, construct a Commander-legal deck that uses fewer colors than are in the commander's color identity. You may include lands to cast your commander, but spells and abilities must not require the color you're omitting. For example, if you choose to build an Izzet deck with Eshki Dragonclaw as your commander, you cannot include any cards that require green mana to cast or use, but you can include green lands to cast Eshki. As always, decks will be judged on creativity and originality."},{"insert":"\n\nThis contest prompt is inspired by the growing list of commanders that don't require all of their colors to be cast. Commanders like Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, Keruga, the Macrosage, and Jinnie Fay, Jetmir's Second can all helm decks that leave out one color in their identity. Two color decks often have cheaper mana bases, or you might prefer how a deck with fewer colors plays. Some of these commanders also naturally push you to prioritize one color over the others. An Alesha deck with no other red cards can more easily optimize it's mana base to pay for her activated ability. On the other hand, you can build Simic Yasova Dragonclaw to play the rare theft deck without red.\n\nOf course, you can choose any commander for this challenge, not just ones that abridge their own mana costs. This is a great opportunity to push strategies outside of their normal colors while having support from a strong commander. Nethroi, Apex of Death can lead a Selesnya reanimator deck, or a Golgari aggro deck that cheats its smaller attackers into play en masse. Raffine, Scheming Seer could make for an interesting Orzhov or even mono black tempo deck.\n\nPerhaps the easiest route to take is to choose a commander that doesn't need to be cast at all. You can easily build a deck of any color with The Ur-Dragon, and Oloro, Ageless Ascetic has been helming mono white lifegain decks for almost as long as Commander's been around. These commanders tend to be more specific to a creature type or theme, however, so building a creative deck that stands out will be more difficult.\n\nHow To Participate"},{"attributes":{"header":3},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Brew an EDH/Commander legal deck on Archidekt that satisfies the prompt."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Any unreleased cards spoiled during the contest’s duration are allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Silver-bordered and acorn cards, while cool, are not allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Digital-only cards (such as those designed for the Alchemy format on Arena) are not allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Strictly one deck submitted per user."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nReply to the Archidekt newspost, or submission post on the Archidekt Discord with a link to your deck before "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"9:00 pm EST (UTC -5, currently)"},{"insert":" on "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Wednesday, April 9, 2025"},{"insert":" (do not submit the same deck in multiple places).\n\nOnly one submission per user! I wanted to run it effectively as green as possible and as such almost all of the mana is only able to tap for green. You get around the ability to cast him with World Tree, Joiner Adept effects. I additionally wanted to keep the deck sub $200 and make it more budget friendly with most cards being decently easy to trade for or purchase. You could put a few other cards in it to more optimize it but I wanted it to be more budget friendly. Thanks for reading, enjoy and good luck everyone else brewing!\n"}]}

Hashaton is selling his collection of eldrazi and praetor's for a discount price of three mana.. though they are smaller than usual. This deck was a blast to build and though its a tad janky it can lead to some fun interactions as you cheat out big creatures for cheap. It is pretty toolboxy with some cards working better when discarded or some being better to play or some being good as both. Hashaton was a commander on my radar to build when he was revealed but I never really wanted to make the same deck that plenty of other people were making so when I saw this challenge I knew it was his time to shine. The deck curve is a little wild but with hashaton making most creatures effectively cost 3 mana you can kinda throw that out the window. \n"}]}

{"ops":[{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Ramos unlocks The Door to the Void"},{"insert":"\nhttps://archidekt.com/decks/12304488/ramos_unlocks_the_door\n\nThe worst part about high-color decks is that...they makes things too easy. you have access to all the best things across all colors, and the commanders are often engines to enable you to play a good-stuff deck; spoiled for choice and flexibility rather than working around a specific mechanic. \nUnless...your five-color deck is actually 0 colors?\n\nThis Ramos deck is completely colorless (except for one thing...we'll get to that in a moment). It uses modular creatures and equipments to get counters onto Ramos, with tools for sacrifice and artifact-recursion to make use of all your game zones. Ramos can act as a value-churning voltron dragon, with never a need to spend those counters for colored mana. After all, what would you need colored mana for in a colorless deck?\n\nUnless you encounter...The Door.\nDoor to Nothingness features the only colored pips in the entire deck besides Ramos himself, requiring the exact arrangement of mana to activate that Ramos produces. Ramos, Dragon Engine, holds the Key.\n"}]}

It also effectively excludes the Legendary Creature side of the commander, focusing instead on repeatedly casting a sorcery from the command zone.\n\nThis deck wants to cast creatures and create tokens to sacrifice to cast Awaken the Blood Avatar repeatedly. It wants to win with aristocrats effects and burn from the commander's Avatar tokens. Sacrifice and theft effects should help keep opponents under control while life totals tick down.\n\nThis is a budget build. All cards cost <$2.50 at time of building. I would describe the intended power level as \"optimized casual\" - hopefully more focused than a Precon, but this is clearly not a cEDH commander or budget level.\n"}]}
