You may include lands to cast your commander, but spells and abilities must not require the color you're omitting. For example, if you choose to build an Izzet deck with Eshki Dragonclaw as your commander, you cannot include any cards that require green mana to cast or use, but you can include green lands to cast Eshki. As always, decks will be judged on creativity and originality."},{"insert":"\n\nThis contest prompt is inspired by the growing list of commanders that don't require all of their colors to be cast. Commanders like Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, Keruga, the Macrosage, and Jinnie Fay, Jetmir's Second can all helm decks that leave out one color in their identity. Two color decks often have cheaper mana bases, or you might prefer how a deck with fewer colors plays. Some of these commanders also naturally push you to prioritize one color over the others. An Alesha deck with no other red cards can more easily optimize it's mana base to pay for her activated ability. On the other hand, you can build Simic Yasova Dragonclaw to play the rare theft deck without red.\n\nOf course, you can choose any commander for this challenge, not just ones that abridge their own mana costs. This is a great opportunity to push strategies outside of their normal colors while having support from a strong commander. Nethroi, Apex of Death can lead a Selesnya reanimator deck, or a Golgari aggro deck that cheats its smaller attackers into play en masse. Raffine, Scheming Seer could make for an interesting Orzhov or even mono black tempo deck.\n\nPerhaps the easiest route to take is to choose a commander that doesn't need to be cast at all. You can easily build a deck of any color with The Ur-Dragon, and Oloro, Ageless Ascetic has been helming mono white lifegain decks for almost as long as Commander's been around. These commanders tend to be more specific to a creature type or theme, however, so building a creative deck that stands out will be more difficult.\n\nHow To Participate"},{"attributes":{"header":3},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Brew an EDH/Commander legal deck on Archidekt that satisfies the prompt."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Any unreleased cards spoiled during the contest’s duration are allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Silver-bordered and acorn cards, while cool, are not allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Digital-only cards (such as those designed for the Alchemy format on Arena) are not allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Strictly one deck submitted per user."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nReply to the Archidekt newspost, or submission post on the Archidekt Discord with a link to your deck before "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"9:00 pm EST (UTC -5, currently)"},{"insert":" on "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Wednesday, April 9, 2025"},{"insert":" (do not submit the same deck in multiple places).\n\nOnly one submission per user! {"ops":[{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Mono-Red Kykar Spiritstorm"},{"attributes":{"header":1},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nDo you like mono-red storm? How about glass cannons with minimal interaction? Maybe even winning in protracted turn that will make your friends walk away from the table and your LGS bar you from the premises? Do I have the deck for you!\n\nThis deck is helmed by Kykar, Wind's Fury. Clearly Kykar wants to be built as a mono-red commander - he's a red dork in the command zone! This deck leverages cantrips, wheels, and storm to take the biggest and flashiest turn possible. We do this through pieces such as Urabrask, Birgi, or Storm-Kiln Artist to essentially double up on our commander's effect. You might be asking why not just run Birgi instead of Kykar. The neat thing with Kykar is that he allows us to effectively store mana until later turns if needed. The spirits also give us versatility to play cards such as Transmogrify to search for our value engines or play finishers such as Impact Tremors.\n\nThe Gameplan:\nValue, value, value! The main goal is to find any piece that synergizes with what we want to do, which is casting spells. The goal of this deck is to have enough value pieces out that eventually our opponents are swamped in spirits and we have enough mana to do whatever we need (hopefully a Crackle With Power at X=8). Essentially we can durdle with cantrips and our commander as long as we keep drawing helpful spells (any card that's one mana to draw a card replaces itself in your hand and is essentially free with Kykar). We do this until we draw into something like a Mana Geyser or a Battle Hymn, which will really get things going. All along using wheels to keep our hand full and things like Past in Flames to keep up value from all the spells we've been casting.\n\nAll-Star Cards:\nWhile goldfishing the deck there were certain cards that I loved seeing.\nHarmonic Prodigy - doubles our commander's triggers (go wizards!) and combos with the next card on the list.\nKrark - just a fun little guy, and if you have an additional value piece for cast you can go mana positive while bouncing spells to your hand in some cases.\nRuby Medallion - all your spells with a generic pip are 1 less to cast, sign me up! This lets more spells (Tormenting Voice, Big Score, etc) go mana neutral with your commander.\nSkullclamp - another benefit of creating spirits instead of just mana. This lets a storm turn continue where it might run out of gas otherwise.\n\nSee decklist for categories (Wheel, Cantrip, Cast Value, Finisher, etc.)\n\n"},{"attributes":{"link":"https://archidekt.com/decks/12297323"},"insert":"https://archidekt.com/decks/12297323"},{"insert":"\n"}]}

{"ops":[{"insert":"https://archidekt.com/decks/12418003/april_contest_daretti\n\nI dont have much time to explain but i wanted to make this challange as challenging as possible... and create a unique deck.... what if instead of reducing my commanders colors by 1, i didnt use my commanders colors at all. So i chose commander that would be able to win with artifacts and built around it... as such i present to you this deck. \n"}]}
