This month we're delving into Magic's past and pulling inspiration from competitive 60 card decks, specifically their names. If you're not familar, Magic decks of the past have had creative names that don't describe how the deck works. This month, your task will be to reinterpret those names and create a Commander deck to match. More details below.\n\nWhat’s The Contest All About?"},{"attributes":{"header":3},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nWorking within the parameters of the prompt provided below, construct a decklist with your own creative spin. However, Rather than adapting the strategy of the deck, develop a creative interpretation based only on the deck's name. For example, Tin Fins sounds like a deck built around sea creatures and artifacts. That could be copying Inkwell Leviathan, or suiting merfolk up with as many equipment as possible. Four Horsemen might include only four creatures, each riding a horse, or be a deck built around a four card combo.\n\nSome names are harder to interpret. You might have an idea of what a Fruity Pebbles deck would do, but what about Raisin Bran? Or Nic Fit? The color of Raisin Bran might remind you of the old artifact border, while raisins might represent the desiccated figures of Zombies.\n\nFor Nic Fit you might focus on the apparent typo, and include cards like Zaffai, Thunder Conductor which have spelling mistakes in their text.\n\nOf course, you can pick any deck from the long history of Magic tournaments. Keep in mind, however, that the more strange and cryptic the deck name the more opportunity you have for creative interpretation.\n\nThat shouldn't stop you from exploring an idea for UR Delver or Domain Overlords, but be careful you don't simply recreate that strategy in Commander.\n\n\nHow To Participate"},{"attributes":{"header":3},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"   Brew an EDH/Commander legal deck on Archidekt that satisfies the prompt."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"   Any unreleased cards spoiled during the contest’s duration are allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"   Silver-bordered and acorn cards, while cool, are not allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"   Digital-only cards (such as those designed for the Alchemy format on Arena) are not allowed."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"   Strictly one deck submitted per user."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\n\nReply to the Archidekt newspost, or submission post on the Archidekt Discord with a link to your deck before "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"9:00 pm EST"},{"insert":" (UTC -4, currently) on "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Wednesday, May 14, 2025"},{"insert":" (do not submit the same deck in multiple places).\n\nOnly one submission per user! I wanted to make it a boar tribal with all the truffle sniffing lads hitting the field, but it felt too limiting and too forced due to lack of commander options (there are only three legendary boars I could find).\n\nThis truffle themed deck is filled with fungus and spores galore! Generally speaking, all the spells in the deck are either a fungus/saproling creature or make and/or buff them. I also liked the idea of using cards that create spore counters, the likes of which I had not known about prior to building this deck. I think the deck will be quite fun to play when I get the cards together, but I'm also a tribal player.\n\nI have a little additional information about the deck in the deck description, but the primary win condition for the deck is to go wide and then buff the board to win.\n"}]}

They want to draw extra cards? No extra cards for them. Play a big spell? Counter magic. Win the game? Plenty of cards that won't let them. Also hidden within the deck is the Karn the Great Creator and Mycosynth Lattice, a classic combo for locking players out of decks and rendering their decks null and void. There are also a number of zero cost cards with various effects as well to play into the other meaning of \"zero effect.\" \n\nTo top it off, this deck is led by Progenitus because its protected from everything.\n\nPrepare your best villainous laugh as your opponents discover the true meaning of Zero Effect.\n"}]}
