Especially for commanders that easily support multiple themes, I invariably end up with a pile of 150 cards that all support different strategies.\n\nInstead of having to put all those extra cards away, why not set them aside to swap in later? This let's you easily test different versions of your deck, or just quickly vary the play experience from game to game. Especially for themes that have significant overlap, like Enchantress, Tokens, and Lands, you can also shift the primary focus of your deck from one to another to stop a deck from ever feeling stale.\n\nA transformational sideboard could also be used to help match the power level of a given pod. When playing at a local game store or convention it's helpful to be flexible with the strength of your deck. Swapping in or out Game Changers, or just adjusting some of the more focused cards in the deck to match a more relaxed pod.\n\nThis also saves space compared to carrying around multiple decks, and is a great approach for rediscovering the magic in an old favorite by reintroducing old cards you cut for upgrades.\n\nTaking this concept as far as possible, you could even swap your commander for a different one, along with a set of cards to better support them. This is a great way to get extra mileage out of an expensive mana base, compare how two similar commanders actually play, or get even more variety in your games.\n\nAt its most extreme, you could change both the commander and theme of your deck, functionally fitting two decks into 120 cards. With some solid staples like Coat of Arms and Ratcatcher, Lord Skitter, Marrow-Gnawer, Nashi, and of course the Piper of the Swarm.\n\nStart with Karumonix as your commander and his accompanying 19 card sideboard. Use the rats and Karumonix's toxic proliferation powers to poison your enemies and his sideboard filled with things like Vraska's fall to make your friends sac a creature and get a poison counter. The Rat King quickly becomes kill on sight, but that's okay. Just let him die, then bring him back with Vat Emergence and proliferate while you dig through five more cards for more rats. Ten poison damage and its game over, easily makes you the target at the table.\n\nOnce your tired of being the tables enemy, switch to Vren the Relentless as commander and his 19 other sideboard cards. The poison is over, but the exiles have begun. Once he comes out when an enemy creature dies, they get exiled and Vren turns them into a powerful rat token. But only as many as were exiled, so we need to exile as many as possible. Feed the Serpent and Ravenform help with this nicely. Vren, the Relentless rat rogue brings with him his cloak and dagger as well. To snatch up when he enter the battlefield for free protection against those pesky removal spells.\n\nThanks for checking out this goofy deck and good luck to everyone.\n"}]}

I also looked into doing compleated versions of characters. Ultimately I settled on the classic Mishra vs. Urza.\n\nBudget wasn't 100% considered, but I usually make a self imposed rule that all cards must be cards I am willing to buy if I don't already own. I didn't include many of the mox I would have liked due to cost so some of the mana base/ some cards were chosen to keep the cost lower (some more expensive cards I just own). It's also not optimized for sure mostly I just put together an overall idea for the deck.\n\n**Note the deck will look like it has 101 cards, for simplicity's sake for testing both Mishra and Urza are treated as commanders, you would just take the one out you are not using**\n\nWhat is the same:\nBoth decks are highly commander focused so protecting them is crucial I play 7 cards focused on keeping them alive\n36 lands... although despite what the stats are saying playtesting still left me having several turns where I was not pulling lands so it may need more. The mana base focuses on blue and black, then uses a smattering of things that can filter or produce any color to account for the red in Mishra or the white in Urza\nRemoval - fairly basic, lower than I usually run, but I am mostly hoping to outpace the board or rely on some of unique cards in each deck to take down problems. \nCard advantage Suite - focuses a lot on things that care about artifacts\nToken generation - playing a suite of cards that can facilitate or produce extra tokens from Mishra or Urza\n\n\nNow for the differences\n\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Urza, Chief Artificer"}},{"insert":" \nThis deck focuses on low cost artifact creatures, or creatures with affinity-like effects, to help power Urza out, then just keeps dropping artifact's to keep the constructs growing. A smattering of hite cards are also included to keep the board under control without impeding Urza too much such as Ethersworn Cannonist, Esper sentinel, porphyry nodes, and purging scythe... also the irony of having a phyrexian producing card in Skrelv's Hive and Mondrak is not lost on me. (since Mishra' scarifies them at the end you can stack up clones during each extra combat phase) The idea is to play vehicles that either have on attack, on ETB, or on death triggers. Mishra can turn make a copy and turn them into creatures getting their powerful effects while bypassing crew costs. This version also includes several infinite combos, which probably makes it slightly more powerful especially if more well tuned. Some particular fun cards for me are wishclaw talisman, reaver titan, esoteric duplicator (if you have the mana you can make a permanent copy of your animated artifact), and foreboding steamboat. In the maindeck spine of ish sah, portal to phyrexia, demonic unker and executioner's capsule are all mean targets to copy. Radiant lotus I am not 100% sure on, but the ability to attack with a Misrha artifact, then sacrifice it for mana before it gets scarified by Mishra's effect I think was too much of a fun concept to pass up.\n\nFor the infinite combo: there are two\nBreath of Fury - Mishra + any other creature and one non-creature artifact goes infinite here. Place breath of Fury onto the non-Mishra creature. Go to combat, Mishra makes a copy of the non-creature. You attack, sac the creature, put it on the artifact copy you made, extra combat occurs, sac the original clone, and put it on the new clone, rinse and repeat as long as your opponents do not destroy the 4/4 it's game over."},{"attributes":{"list":"ordered"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Aggravated Assault or Hellkite Charger - Mishra + either of these + either jeweled lotus. Go to combat, copy jeweled lotus, tap jeweled lotus and your jeweled lotus copy activate aggravated assault or hellkite. Repeat copying a lotus each time netting technically limitless mana + infinite combats"},{"attributes":{"list":"ordered"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Same combo as above, but using Radiant Lotus - for this version to work you have to have a way of generating additional copies such as with esoteric duplicator, worldwalker helm, stridgehanger automaton, or simulacrum synthesizer. Depending on which one you have you also might need to have an additional creature to be doing the fighting (which could be Mishra if it's a clear board). Basically you have to always have two artifacts to sacrifice to Radiant Lotus making the combo much more finicky. Released in 1993, it was the first successful TCG and since then has created an avid fan base, easily evidenced by all the decks submitted for this challenge. With over 27,000 cards released to date, the number of options and strategies afforded in deck building is endless. One of the most popular strategies includes tokens, which is consistent with the 172061 decks on EDHREC with the tokens tag (the most amount of decks for any tag I might add). And in the Commander format, legendary creatures are key, they're what an entire deck is built around. As such, the modular deck I built incorporates both strategies, creating two decks, a legends matters with a token package, or a token deck with a historic spells theme. Welcome to "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Kethis, the Hidden Hand"}},{"insert":"'s aristocrat combo and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Alistair, the Brigadier"}},{"insert":"'s stompy soldiers.\n\nBoth decks give us access to green and white, which are great starter colors for any token deck.
