A “block” of sets shared a cohesive story, complementary card mechanics, and ultimately rotated out of Standard together. Competitive “Block Constructed” (wherein only cards from a particular block of sets could be played) was a popular format for many years, until blocks themselves were ultimately abandoned as a design paradigm following Ixalan in 2018. \n\nFor this month’s deckbuilding contest, we’re bringing back block-- for Commander, naturally. However, rather than all submissions being limited to a single chosen block, each participant chooses which block they would like to build within.
