Luckily for me, Aladdin is a MTG character, although not Commander worthy (it's not legendary, how dare them?). This deck is a Elsha of the Infinite deck with a few other tricks. It has a Flying Carpet and plenty of Djinns. It has a lamp and Abu (casted as Ragavan). Revisiting the film as an adult, however, I find his character slightly more annoying. However, I was delighted to open \"Ian Malcolm, Chaotician\" in a pack last year. And so, I present to you the deck that Ian Malcolm would play, if he were a Commander player. A justification for each non-land card is available in the description. I couldn't stop laughing while writing it up. And yes, I have this deck in paper, but have yet to subject my playgroup to it because it's hard to run over spelltable. Make custom art for prominent benders in the lore. Change creature type Shapeshifter for Avatar, Rogue for Firebender, Warrior for Earthbender, Wizard for Waterbender and Cleric for Airbender. But wait, Aang is the only Airbender? Aang would love to honor his deceased friends of the Southern Air Temple (eg. Gyatso) by eternalising them in his EDH deck. I loved educational dinosaur picture books with vivid illustrations, and became enamored with James Gurney's Dinotopia, an illustrated 'journal' of a 19th century scientist shipwrecked on a lost island populated by intelligent dinosaurs living in harmony with humans. I loved the book's sense of adventure, utopian multicultural themes, and (most of all) the gorgeous oil paintings of a society populated with dinosaurs.\n\nFor June's contest I'm submitting my homage to Gurney's masterpiece. The deck is led by "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Durnan of the Yawning Portal"}},{"insert":" (standing in for Dinotopia's protagonist Arthur Denison) partnered with the "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Passionate Archaeologist"}},{"insert":" background (for his training as a man of science). The core 'concept' of the deck is that Durnan (aka Arthur) must venture into the island (aka attack) to discover new species (aka exiling undaunted). When Arthur meets the new species (aka casting from exile) he advances the field of archaeology (aka lowering opponents life totals) and gets closer to unlocking the secrets of Dinotopia (aka winning the game).\n\nIn addition to the commanders, the rest of the deck is flavor-restricted: only card concepts that appear in the book(s) are allowed, so most of the creatures are dinosaurs or humans and no Elves/Goblins/etc. The actual paper deck has been custom-proxied using only art lifted directly from the book, with illustrations that match the card concepts. Despite this significant mechanical restriction the deck is still quite powerful and can hang comfortably at most non-cEDH tables.
