{"ops":[{"insert":"I've chosen to showcase Rafiq of the Many for this contest. I wanted to use a mechanic that is, on the surface, straightforward. Ha. I know, I know... another self-ascribed rule is to have a deck that grows with the player. To this end, Exalted is the perfect mechanic. At face value, it does just encourage a single creature to attack, but as the player learns more about it, they will discover some fun, if nuanced, loopholes. For instance, they will learn the difference between a creature assigned as an attacker and one that enters attacking. But, still, few things really excite new players than seeing their 1/2 creature become a 9/10 or 15/16! Oh, and they hit twice with Double Strike?! Wow!\n\nAnother important facet to my build is I wanted to help them feel \"invincible,\" at least for a time. I've fashioned the deck after a fort of pillows to give them time to see their deck in action. In my experience, new players can feel \"picked on\" if they're attacked \"indiscriminately\" and if they keep losing their cards. So, when they're not busy hiding within a Ghostly Prison, they can recur their lost pieces with a plethora of options. Eternal Witness? Nah. Skullwinder fosters teamwork and may gain goodwill. And, of course, Sun Titan. I made sure that mana value <=3 is where this deck sits. However, I did include Covetous Jewel because I think it can lead to fun player interaction (politics; by the way, new player, you can wheel and deal in this game!), but it also teaches the concept that other players can take control of your cards (without being too debilitating - you can get it back).\n\nLastly, I didn't want anything that would cause unnecessary headache such as an open-ended tutor or \"needing to know\" what an opponent's things do. But, those are still part of the game so I've included Sovereigns of Lost Alara. Apart from contributing to the Exalted mechanic, it teaches the valuable lesson of tutoring in a controlled environment: only Auras. I kept "},{"attributes":{"underline":true},"insert":"pricing"},{"insert":" in mind (slightly more than a precon, but offers much more focus), as well as "},{"attributes":{"underline":true},"insert":"complexity"},{"insert":" (Exalted is a straightforward mechanic with a lot of learning space), "},{"attributes":{"underline":true},"insert":"replayability"},{"insert":" (this deck performs well with one of many great attackers, but can go wide in a surprising twist), "},{"attributes":{"underline":true},"insert":"innovation"},{"insert":" (there are some very helpful upgrades when they're ready), and "},{"attributes":{"underline":true},"insert":"emergent gameplay"},{"insert":" (this deck offers a lot to be discovered while seemingly straightforward). \n\nI believe, with this deck, a player can start their Magic journey and still be surprised months later by a suddenly-discovered rules interaction or a surprising strategy. While remaining much more focused than a precon, there are still multiple ways to personalize it: hyperfixate on Exalted, specifically; go all-in on Auras with Estrid, the Masked; or even go more pillow-fort+stax with ETB durdles. I hope they will enjoy this style for months/ years! \n\nhttps://archidekt.com/decks/8741422/all_for_one_one_for_all\n\n***Edit*** Listed cost had already changed. You could spend money to eventually build a deck for a game you might not liking......or you could ask a buddy if you could try one of theirs! In order for the deck to maintain consistency and still serve as a teaching for new players, I chose to make the price a little higher.\n\nI chose two colors because it is much simpler for a new player to understand how a two-color deck works. The deck is a tribal of spirits, where the player will find several types of cards with basic Magic mechanics, such as cards with vigilance, flying, flash, first strike, scry, ward, lifelink and counters, with only a few being left out (in the case of Haste, which is not present in the two chosen colors). In addition, the deck teaches that the graveyard, even if defeated creatures go there, is a zone that can be used in the game. In addition, you can find all the basic types of cards in this deck so that a new player already knows what these types are, with lands, creatures, artifacts, enchantments, sorcery, instants and planeswalkers.\n\nAs the player plays with the deck he will learn new combos and have a better way of using the cards and I think that after about 6 to 7 games he will already be mastering the deck. And the deck can still be improved but it would require more money for that.\n"}]}

It's intended to be relatively straightforward to play, just cast green dudes that don't have abilities, pump them with various enchantments and have a few card draw engines in the deck to keep their hand full of more green dudes to play. There's a few other things in the deck to keep their more important creatures safe, such as the boots and the plates, and a couple of small graveyard recursion or interaction pieces to make use of their creatures after they've gone into the Big Forest in the Sky.
