I also tried to make it an interesting theme since I don't see a rat deck often, I decided to make it a rat plus most rats are cheap to make perfect for a beginner that probably doesn't want to spend a bunch of money on a super high level deck when they just started. This also my first time making a fully completed deck without the use or help of a precon.\n"}]}

Here is a breakdown of the thinking behind the deck and why it is a good starter deck (and deck in general):\n\nTheme: Legends! Shanid gives you card draw and evasion so, acts as the lynch pin of the deck by turning on the win condition of combat damage. I have tried to make each inclusion have a clear reason for being there. The only real breaks from the theme are ramp and removal but they do have some synergies throughout the deck. There is a graveyard sub-theme which fits an on-board strategy and fits the colour combination well.\n\nGame plan: The deck is full of various kinds of Legend lords and buffs that snowball into an inexorable board state and win by attacking. I have also included a few board wipes that are either one-sided or leave a singular creature on everyone's board which is great for your Menace commander and the graveyard sub-theme.\n\nRamp and Card Draw: The ramp is pretty straightforward mana rocks but Sword of the Animist, Relic of Legends, and Honour Worn are spicy inclusions! The card draw largely relies on Shanid but has a few other cute ways to draw/filter like. I would say the main source of card advantage is in recursion though.\n\nBudget and Upgrades: I have tried very hard to keep the cost of the deck below $100 but have put some less budget upgrades into the Maybeboard - mostly expensive legendary lands that are really fantastic because they are free draws.\n\nLearning and Complexity: Beyond finding how all the lords and buffs compound, I think Shanid is a great commander to learn about how to manage your major resources. Firstly, taking damage to draw is a great intro into how life is one of those resources to be used. Secondly, there are some really interesting graveyard interactions between cards like Teshar/Ratadrabik and the cards that self-sacrifice or sacrifice (Jirina/Boromir and Gollum/Ayli/Bartolome) that will highlight the graveyard as a resource.\n\nAnyway! Pick me!\nChris.\n"}]}

{"ops":[{"insert":"Fantastic timing - I actually have a pile of (currently 25) loaner decks at three levels of complexity - for new players, for intermediate players wanting to tune up their decks, and for expert players that want to try something new and interesting. The Kosei deck I'm submitting is as entry level as my loaners get - mono-green voltron - without being boring or underpowered, letting the new player \"keep up\" with the rest of the table while having fun and learning some key mechanics. \n\n"},{"attributes":{"link":"https://archidekt.com/decks/6107854/voltron"},"insert":"Here it is!"},{"insert":"\n\nFor his combat-based ability to function, Kosei requires three things: an aura, an equipment, and a counter of any kind. This not only introduces players to a fun and intuitive creature-based combat strategy, but also several card types in a focused setting. It is also less complex to mentally manage than a go-wide or tokens list, since you're primarily focusing on one big creature, easier to understand than a combo list, and requires less game knowledge than a high-interaction control deck.\n\nThe deck breaks down into a relatively small number of categories: ramp spells, protection spells, draw spells, buff spells, and removal, with no complex combos.. The lower number of categories makes it easier for a player to understand and respond to the board state, while still giving them meaningful choices to make and learn from and presenting a relatively simpler target to track - keeping Kosei fully modified. Importantly, it excludes any sort of planeswalkers which I have found can trip up new players since they play so much differently than other cards.\n\nThe learning in this deck falls into three major concepts: the importance of being proactive ( and attacking!) to advance your game, the significance of timing for protection and interaction spells, and the fact that player removal is, in many cases, the best removal! The deck also has a few triggered abilities across multiple phases to keep track of, helping players develop that skill early, but not enough to overwhelm a newer player. \n\nI've already had new players use the deck and they've had a blast - and they've come back to my LGS for more loaners and eventually their own decks.\n"}]}
