Because the deck is a compilation of the best Fatties and ways to get them into play through the commander or just ramping, every road leads to multiple major fun threats entering your side of the table. The focus on trample and the ludacris stats of the fatties incentives attacking.\nHer high floor is Mayael's major selling point.\nEven played poorly, the deck will still pump out those mighty big beasts and be a fun contribution to the game.\nHowever, don't be mistakes, while Mayael always delivers any way you play, she teaches the new player a lot of subtle lessons,\n-Timing (when to activate the commander (own turn vs end step) and when to play the commander vs ramp/fatty (R) from your hand\n-Synergie (focus on forests, Fatties just missing trample and trample givers, multiple ways to spend your mana)\n-Threat assesment/politics with your removal and attacks\n\nMawy's Mayael, perfect for the new player, it allows for a focus on your own stuff and your own turn, while also packing a fun puch with all the biggest creatures.\nShe is very forgiving and contains enough carddraw/interaction to always have something meaningfull to do.\nShe has been part of my stable of paper decks for over a decade and is still the first deck I lend out to novice commander players.\n"}]}

At the same time Tatyova does not require any specific setup within the deck, so that we can simply utilize the spells we have without having to construct the deck in a specific way. This makes for a beginner-friendly, straightforward gameplay.\nThe idea is that by ramping you'll always have an inherent advantage, which is fun in its own right and having the opportunity to ramp always made games quite a bit more fun for me personally.\nFurthermore, the deck teaches you interaction with its access to blue and in every game will showcase the importance of it with the different iterations of counterspells. \nFinally the +1+1 theme allows us to utilize cheap creatures without going for extraordinary win conditions, making the deck cheap in both mana and price - which is an important factor for a beginner deck. After all, you would not want to spend multiple hundreds of dollars on your introduction to this game. And if you end up not being able to play cards for half your turns, it stands to question whether these games would be particulary fun to you. Complementary, due to the massive ramping approach of the deck, the player should not get mana screwed a lot and generally have the mana for their interaction, without massively calculating mana costs in advance. The player can simply focus on playing their cards. This will then iron out if they choose to pursue an upgrade path, where some of the ramp likely would be cut in favor of more effective cards - allowing the player to ease into the necessity of conserving mana.\nIt also ties back in with the ramp aspect of the deck, in allowing us to reduce the pool we draw from, making it more likely to hit the cards we want, which should let us access most of our cards even with very little card advantage mechanics.\nThe deck does have limited learning opportunities due to being so simplified, however it covers all the basics about game mechanics in splashes (things like Planeswalkers, X-Cost, Counters and Hybrid Mana), while not being too full of them to make learning all of them at once a necessity. \nThose limited learning opportunities however are not a drawback of this deck, as there are generally 4 players on a table, all with their own deck with their own respective mechanics. As a new player you can see and learn from all of them and thus dont need to integrate a large amount of different mechanics into one beginner deck. \nDue to the natural draw towards merfolk, the deck has several innate upgrade paths, whether to lean into more merfolk creatures for a typal synergy or cards like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"The Ozolith"}},{"insert":" which are generally good in conjunction with any type of counters. The deck could even be branched out into more colors, I'm mostly thinking white here - potentailly integrating coven synergies from the corresponding Selesnya cards. {"ops":[{"insert":"A good deck for new magic players should not only be easy and fun to play the first time, but should also help new players get better at the game as they continue to play and grasp the rules. With this Volo deck, a new magic player is simply asked to cast Volo (hopefully on turn 3 with the help of a mana dork) and then dump creatures and their clones onto the battlefield. Once the new player feels ready, they can begin to use flash and adventure cards to better understand instants and the stack.\n\nThe deck has a bunch of cards that are commonly used in commander (e.g. beast whisperer, birds of paradise, divination, harmonize, terramorphic expanse, etc.) so that new players can begin to recognize the cards that their opponents are playing. There are also some iconic cards that might help new magic players with magic lingo (e.g. clone, overrun, lure). \n\nFinally, there's lots of cool interactions for the new player to discover as they play the deck, which may inform whether they lean towards an archetypal Timmy, Johnny, or Spike player. If the new player gets a kick out of having 2 verdant forces that create 2 saprolings per turn, then they may be a Timmy player. If the new player connects more with combinations of cards like precursor golem / storm the seedcore (to make six 7/7 vigilant tramplers) or echoing equation / Volo (to make X copies of creature spells until end of turn, where X is the number of creatures on the battlefield when echoing equation was cast), then they may be a Johnny player. And if the new player really just wants to win by swinging with 2 paladins of predation for lethal toxic damage, then they may be a Spike player. Regardless of the new player's playstyle, this deck is easy to adjust to whatever playstyle calls to the player, as long as they don't swap out creatures for humans or wizards (since Volo won't ever clone those creature types). I wanted to find a way to build this into a Commander deck, and wound up building this list.\nWhy its good for a beginner:\nI would say its good for a beginner due to the low to the ground nature of the deck. The entire deck, minus one (or two - if you count an overload cost) is under 4 mana to cast, including the commander. The deck runs a multitude of creatures that make tokens or ramp the player so that the turn Zada is cast, the player can begin buffing the whole board. The deck runs tons of cantrips that target creatures, allowing them to be duplicated by Zada, ensuring that the players hand is always full. All of the other instants and sorceries make tokens to help build up a critical mass of creatures. The namesake card of the deck, Stormsplitter can turn into a whole army of buffed up otters by casting buff spells, that are then applied to all of the creatures. The deck also runs a lot of removal to help make sure the pilot isnt overrun by opponents, as well as a healthy ramp package to get the deck going. In addition to all of this, the deck is mono colored, so the player never has to worry about which lands they tap. \n\nDecklist: https://archidekt.com/decks/8775071/zada_beginner_friendly_under_250\n"}]}

{"ops":[{"attributes":{"italic":true},"insert":" "},{"attributes":{"italic":true,"bold":true},"insert":" B.A.N.T. spells BIG!!!!"},{"insert":"\n\n"},{"attributes":{"italic":true,"bold":true},"insert":" "},{"insert":"https://www.archidekt.com/decks/8318064\n\n The first thing that I thought of was the idea of a new player. Are we talking about a new player to this wonderful game we call MtG or just a new player to the format of Commander? Either way I believe that this brew is wonderful for both classes of \"new\" player. The complexity of the deck is quite simple. There are many learning opportunities with a multitude of different keywords available. Important combat keywords such as vigilance, haste, and trample are available to be added to your creatures via equipment. And, let me tell you about those creatures. We've got some BIG ole creatures to cast! Would you like a 40/40 creature? What player, new or old, doesn't enjoy casting big impactful spells? It's not only creatures we have that can alter the game in big ways. Have you ever cast Ezuris' Predation? Woah buddy is it big and bad! \n Now, that 40/40 I mentioned is a BIG lesson waiting to be learned by the pilot of the deck. This 40/40 creature doesn't have ANY keyword abilities on it and without those keywords it feels tiny when it gets blocked by a 1/1 mouse. So, what our new player will quickly realize is that the keywords trample, vigilance, haste, etc. are arguably even more important than the BIG creature itself.\n Again, there is another key lesson to be learned by MtG players of all kinds, new and old. There is a SECOND main phase to cast spells in. I know, I know... I'm blowing your minds right now, but it's true! So few players utilize this second main phase in truly positive ways. The way that I think is the most positive of all ways to use this phase is to ATTACK FIRST. \n This deck will incentivize it's pilot to do so with added reward. If they do attack first, with TARDIS which is searched for by one of the commanders, before committing to casting spells then they will be rewarded with a beautiful cascade trigger. The more important reward of playing your turn in this manner though is the vital information/leverage that you get by attacking into an opponent with all of your mana, or at least a good amount of your mana, untapped and ready to go! An opponent might choose not to block at all in fear of a response from you and your available mana OR the opponent might be forced to cast a removal spell before they see your REALLY BIG spells after attacks. The idea of attacking first is to make your opponent have difficult choices.\n Lastly, I think that this deck avoids two of the main culprits that kill the enjoyment of a game for a commander player. Those two things, in my opinion, are not having enough mana to cast spells with and relying too heavily on your commander. Everyone has had that game where your commander gets caught up in board wipe after removal to start the game. And, if your deck primarily relies on your commander being alive this makes for not a very good time. This deck doesn't care if it's commanders are destroyed. By the time that has happened you have already gotten the value you need out of them and can keep casting BIG spells!\n\nThe SIMPLE goal of this deck. \nHave a starting hand with three lands and "},{"attributes":{"italic":true},"insert":"hopefully"},{"insert":" a ramp spell."},{"attributes":{"list":"ordered"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"(Turn 2) Play your 2 CMC mana dork commander."},{"attributes":{"list":"ordered"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"(Turn 3) Cast any of the 4 CMC ramp spells to set you up for the rest of the game."},{"attributes":{"list":"ordered"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"From there on out you can cast BIG spells as you see fit!"},{"attributes":{"list":"ordered"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nAdditionally.... this deck is just a bit more than a precon deck! Budget decks are still powerful and fun!\n"}]}

I think this deck absolutely fits that bill! \n\nBuilt around a snow theme, it gives a great overall feel while playing without just going for an overplayed kindred deck. Having a fun theme was a huge selling point for me in starting to deck build in Commander, and this “winter” theme is sure to resonate with Game of Thrones fans that love the idea of playing a deck with House Stark vibes. It also provides a lot of good commander staples, including some powerful snow cards that have dropped in price in recent years (Ohran Frostfang, Dark Depths), but still leaves some room for higher budget upgrading down the road.\n\nThe deck is pretty combat centric so it makes it a more linear strategy to play, which is helpful for players new to Commander, but also allows you to cast lots of spells and have a high amount of interaction given that Jorn untaps all your snow permanents on attack. Jorn makes for a lot of fun for new Commander players, allowing them to pay big mana & drop huge snow threats they can swing with without their commander & board being so scary that it draws a lot of ire from the table. \n\nThis deck is actually a version the very first Commander deck I built, but more refined than what I had so it plays more smoothly and closes out the game more efficiently. I think other new Magic players out there would love to give it a try as a first Commander deck!\n"}]}
