Development Update - Odds and Ends

{"ops":[{"insert":"Happy New Year, all!"},{"attributes":{"header":3},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nSince releasing "},{"attributes":{"link":"https://archidekt.com/news/17621845"},"insert":"custom cards"},{"insert":" into the wild two months ago, we've pushed a number of smaller feature updates to the site. Before we get to our next slate of big projects, let's review what's been released:\n\n\nFeature updates:"},{"attributes":{"header":2},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\n"},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Tag recommendations"},{"insert":" - When you \"complete\" a legal Commander deck with no deck tags, we'll now prompt you with some tag suggestions that might be appropriate for your list. The popup notification appears in the lower left corner of the deck page and can be cleared or followed to your deck settings where the recommendations are provided. We only provide recommendations for fairly objective tags (i.e. elves, artifacts, flying, etc.), so there could be many that apply to your deck beyond those we suggest. This feature is mostly designed to help introduce newer users to the tagging system. We've been fairly conservative with how often the recommendation notification appears, but you can disable it from your account settings if you so choose. \n\n"},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Collapsible deck categories "},{"insert":"- Clicking the three dot menu that appears next to deck category names now presents you with the option to collapse/expand. Collapsing a category will hide all but the category name, quantity, price and settings button. For the sickos out there that brew with massive deck lists, collapsing your larger categories should help with page performance. You can also collapse/expand all categories via the settings cog next to the \"View as\" dropdown at the top of the deck page. Note that categories will only stay collapsed for your current session. If you close out of your browser entirely and reopen Archidekt, all of your categories will be expanded. \n\n"},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Sticky category headings "},{"insert":"- When scrolled below a category heading, it will now sticky itself to the top of your page. This should help you maintain context wherever you are on the page, especially on mobile where it's far more common for categories to not fit within a single screen. \n\n"},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Deck total mana value "},{"insert":"- The deck stats section of the deck page now includes a total for your deck's mana value in addition to the preexisting average mana value. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Ad Nauseam"}},{"insert":" enjoyers rejoice!\n\n"},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Updated playtester settings "},{"insert":"- The settings overlay in the playtester was getting pretty crusty. It's received a significant facelift, making it much easier to find the options you're looking for. We've also added the option to automatically resize the cards in your hand and/or play based on your screen size. \n\n"},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Sell link "},{"insert":"- The old \"Buy\" button on the deck page has become \"Buy/Sell\" as we now allow exports to "},{"attributes":{"link":"https://www.cardkingdom.com/"},"insert":"Card Kingdom"},{"insert":"'s buylist. This export is also accessible at a category level from the three dot icon next to category names. \n\n\nWhat's next?"},{"attributes":{"header":2},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nThat's it for today, but we've got some fun stuff on the horizon! "},{"attributes":{"link":"https://archidekt.com/u/benthic_druid"},"insert":"Ben"},{"insert":" is working implementing some filters to contest submission pages so it'll be easier to find decks you're interested in. Meanwhile, "},{"attributes":{"link":"https://archidekt.com/u/michael"},"insert":"Michael"},{"insert":" is tackling a rework of our deck comments to increase their visibility and general usefulness. {"ops":[{"insert":"Are there any plans to adopt the collapsing categories to other Group By's, mainly Color Tags? I've found this tool can help with tracking physical pulls of inventory.\n"}]}

{"ops":[{"insert":"There weren't any plans to do so, but we'll see how the community responds. \n\nCookies have a max size, and since the collapsed status is saved via a cookie per category, per deck and it'd be odd to allow it to be in some group bys (that weren't category) but not others, we elected to only do categories for now. If the feature is used constantly, we can consider alternative solutions that aren't limited by the overall cookie size.\n"}]}

{"ops":[{"insert":"Are there any plans on implementing search and deck addition functionality for cards with alternate names (ex: Balin's Tomb and Ancient Tomb)? It can be very frustrating when importing decklists and the site does not recognize the alternate names and I have to manually add the missed cards. Ultimately it doesn't take a ton of time to do, but I think this would be a good QoL feature.\n"}]}

{"ops":[{"insert":"Unfortunately, supporting this would require additional lookups on each card whenever you import. This would slow down searches in every context, not just when you need it. It's definitely a poor experience as is and something on our radar to improve, we just don't have a great solution at the moment that doesn't bite us elsewhere. I'm sorry for the disappointing response! \n"}]}

{"ops":[{"insert":"Could you please change the standard between local/syntax filter back to syntax filter? Every time my friends and me use it we visibly groan when our search doesn't work, we have to switch it, the search disappears and we gotta retype it (which does eat up some time when there are 3-5 parameters in play)!\n"}]}

{"ops":[{"insert":"Huh, that's odd. It sets a cookie when you change that setting that shouldn't expire for a year. Try this: Set the syntax filter to on. Close the browser and re-open it. Is the syntax filter still set? If so, that means the cookie is set correctly. It's possible for a cookie to get removed though. Are you running any privacy focused browser extensions? Something like an ad-block, etc. may nuke cookies unceremoniously.\n"}]}

{"ops":[{"insert":"I second this! Tho if the the default is set to local for the normy majority, could we at least get a setting so we could change the default back to syntax for ourselves?\n"}]}

{"ops":[{"insert":"One thing I think Archidekt would benefit from so much would be an option to \"expose explicitly\" some categories that can be fully automated based on card information. Example: Enchantments Matter. It's not a category you want unless you're an enchantress/aura deck, but once you are, it becomes very important to know how much of this stuff is in your deck and you might want to have a sub-category for it.\nHaving the sub-category just be something you can fetch out of already existing analytics and rename to add the \"- matter\" would be heavenly. Thanks so much for the great work team, working on decklists is already so much easier thanks to this tool!\n"}]}

{"ops":[{"insert":"These dev notes are an amalgamation of updates from over the past 3 months of updates. We haven't pushed any new code in the past week or so. Someone reported a safari issue (specifically in the installed app) last night that I suspect is relalted to a safari update, but haven't had the chance to dig into it yet.\n\nCould you be more specific to the issues you're seeing please. It'll help us help you knowing exactly what's wrong. From there we can work toward mitigating or fixing the issue. \n"}]}

{"ops":[{"insert":"We're definitely interested in doing so! However, based on the community's relatively limited usage of custom cards, expanding the system isn't super high on the priority list right now. I'm pretty confident we'll do it at some point, we've just got some bigger impact projects to work on first.\n"}]}
