They Laughed! They All Laughed!

{"ops":[{"insert":"Entry for the October 2025 Deck Building Contest (Jump Scare!). This deck, while containing multiple game changers and powerful cards, is aiming less to optimally win games but instead to tell a story. They Laughed! They All Laughed! is about the journey of an excited young mind that evolves into a mad scientist who unleashes the greatest fear of all... This story is told not only through card selection but also art selection. \n\nFor the purposes of the theme, and a purely mechanical breakdown, you come to the table with Omnath, Locus of All. The expectation is that you will draw and ramp up into huge and powerful multi-color cards, but in reality this deck contains no cards that fulfill the second ability with three mana color pips. Instead, we are using the first ability to store up as much mana as possible on each turn and hold it over to help cover the cost of our cumulative upkeep cards in combination with blink effects. And then, through a combination of blink, ramp, and copying mana generating permanents we keep our accumulated age counters in check. But even then the trap is laid. As they wait in anticipation of a glorious x spell or powerful counter eater like Sin, we flash in Thought Lash and Laboratory Maniac, emptying our library on our upkeep to set up an unexpected cardless library draw win! Of course, like any good mad scientist we have a contingency of monsters to get the job done as well. With blink effects and The Ozolith we can create a terrifying Earthen Goo, Soul Herder, and Balduvian Fallen to utilize age counters and cumulative upkeep costs to exterminate our opponents with our mad creations of unhinged science. Oh, and the obligatory adorable dog mascot and cat to sit in our lap as we laugh with pure evil and monologue about our brilliance.\n\nTo tell our story, we begin with a young child in the Protection of their father. We watch them grow into a love of science, exploring their Rippling Potential through visits to Towers and Libraries and with Study. Along the way they discover a love of Music and learn to tinker and create, building mechanical flying birds and small rings and signets of magical efficiency. But fate has other plans for our Burgeoning young mind. Through Exploration they stumble upon the darker side of Lore. Vile Tutors and the lost knowledge of Ancestors, Ancients, Elders, and forbidden Etchings begin a Corrosion of the mind. In time they seek the patronage of dubious Kings and Courts, using their Resources to fund a litany of increasing terrifying machines and monsters in their refuges and fire fueled forges as they scour the ends of the earth and visit far off Lands to seek ever more knowledge. All the while denying the heinous Propaganda about their work and being forced to hire Grunts and Sentries to protect them. Still they forge on, pushed forward by Brainstorms and Cleverly Concealing their darkest impulses. Until one day, in the midst of an experiment they are struck by a storm of energy and terrifying and wonderful visions come to them. The Horizons of infinity are parted and as their Thoughts are Lashed with this alien knowledge, they laugh Maniacally in their Laboratory. Their mind finally claimed by the Psychic Vortex they have unleashed unveils the most terrifying thing of all... The existential dread of ever marching, unceasing accumulation of age (counters) and the Flow of Maggots that will devour us all in the end...\n"}]}

{"ops":[{"insert":"The basis is that it may simply appear to be another reanimator that occasionally throws some cards in the graveyard, but this deck is intending to mill yourself out and can often do so explosively when it gets later in the game. It isn't built at a CEDH level as there aren't many cards in the deck that win the game early on. Cards like Ad Nauseam weren't included and cards like Hermit Druid won't instantly mill yourself out as I intentionally threw in over 16 basic lands. This deck can do some gross self-mill and mass card draw and even has an infinite three-card loop that uses Muldrotha being in play before having Displacer Kitten enter, followed by a Lotus Petal. Depending on how the board is looking, this could allow you to get out a lot of the same permanent typed cards using recursion cost reduction. While people aren't expecting you to be trying to mill yourself out, there are a few cards that can get you from about half your library to being an entirely empty library. Your main game ending win conditions are Thassa's Oracle, Laboratory Maniac, and Jace - Wielder of Mysteries which can all be played in the same turn that you are milling/drawing the majority of your library.\n"}]}
