{"ops":[{"insert":"\tThis is my first attempt at a deck helmed by "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy"}},{"insert":". This little guy is goofy and very weird to build around, but it makes for a good deck building challenge and the gameplay is diverse and filled with interesting interactions. Here are a few thoughts on the deck: \n\n\nThis deck is meant to be lower power as it is built around a very mid commander in Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy. The budget ended up a bit higher than expected because some of the truly necessary cards are a bit pricy ("},{"insert":{"card-link":"Nuka-Cola Vending Machine"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Retrofitter Foundry"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Worldwalker Helm"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Urza's Saga"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Urza, Lord High Artificer"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Jaheira, Friend of the Forest"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Cyberdrive Awakener"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Kibo, Uktabi Prince"}},{"insert":", etc.). I do believe, however, that the deck would truly be hot garbage without some of these cards. "},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Cards in the deck can make ~25 differently named tokens that count toward Gimbal's triggered ability; the other tokens included by Archidekt do not contribute to this count. "},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"The largest category in the deck consists of various engines (there's ~20 in the dedicated category, and several sprinkled throughout other categories) that produce useful tokens for us--whether that is clues, junk, food (are these useful??), treasures, meteorites, bloods, etc. Since the deck has only one true tutor in "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Transmutation Font"}},{"insert":" my hope is that the deck will have a fun variance of engines that you see each game as we try to pump out as many different artifact tokens as we can. The best ones will be those that help us draw/loot/impulse draw so that we can get more and more engines and artifact token types online. However, finding the fun interactions between the various mediocre engines and working with what we draw each game will keep the deck fresh and interesting to play. "},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"While many of our consistent engines are landfall triggers, the deck does not have a large amount of land ramp spells. This is because we don't need to generate a crazy number of these tokens; one a turn is fine, as we only \"need\" one of a given name anyway and that gives us enough to crack some when we need to. "},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Powering out the commander early is not a concern, as we want at least 3 different artifact tokens (ideally 4+) on the field by the time he comes in so that the end step trigger makes at least a 3/3 body. Of course, if we have another +1/+1 counter booster out--such as "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Branching Evolution"}},{"insert":"--we can jump the gun a bit if we want to. "},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"The veggies of the deck (draw, ramp, and removal) are generally subpar and aimed to include as much token synergy as possible. The control suite is particularly sparse because that's an easy way to lower the power level of a deck and the goal here is to be mid tier at best (and with a trash commander in Gimbal it won't be anywhere near high power even with this budget)."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Some random thoughts: "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Roxanne, Starfall Savant"}},{"insert":" doubles mana production from her own meteorites, treasures, powerstones, bananas, and tapping artifact tokens via the ability granted with "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Jaheira, Friend of the Forest"}},{"insert":". I have yet to find rulings to confirm if this works with "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Urza, Lord High Artificer"}},{"insert":" as well. "},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Powerstones are sometimes dead in this deck, but are excellent for activating the abilities of our artifact tokens, such as clues, food, or incubators. They can also be tapped for mana with Jaheira and Urza, and producing mana this way will not inlcude the rider associated with Powerstones native tap ability. "},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Incubators are nice because they can fill two artifact token names: one before they transform, and another after you pay the 2 colorless to turn one into a creature. So having two or more out and transforming one is a nice play. "},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"For win conditions we are either animating the non-creature artifact tokens with "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Cyberdrive Awakener"}},{"insert":", tapping down opposing creatures with "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Junk Winder"}},{"insert":" so we can swing in with our Gremlin tokens, or making our artifact tokens really beefy with "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Displaced Dinosaurs"}},{"insert":". A nice interaction is that this card makes our Gremlin tokens enter as 7/7s and then they get the +1 counters, so they will be pretty big Gremlins if we can stick displaced dinos for a turn or two. Also, as the deck will occupy lower power tables, winning through beatdown with larger and larger Gremlin tokens is potentially doable. "},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nFinal thoughts: "},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"The deck may end up needing some more protection from non-creature board wipes (looking at you, "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Bane of Progress"}},{"insert":") but I won't know until I play it out. We won't be dodging "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Farewell"}},{"insert":" either way since we can't run "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Teferi's Protection"}},{"insert":", but there may be something to running "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Ripples of Potential"}},{"insert":" to save my Gremlins in the late game. "},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"If we were running tutors then it could be worth including "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Amulet of Vigor"}},{"insert":" so that meteorites from Roxanne, treasures from "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Nuka-Cola Vending Machine"}},{"insert":", and powerstones from "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Sarinth Greatwurm"}},{"insert":" enter untapped. This would allow for some explosive turns, especially with Roxanne, Urza or Jaheira in play. This is certainly extra, and wholly unnecessary. "},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Sticking "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Adrix and Nev, Twincasters"}},{"insert":" and either Jaheira or Urza allows for really explosive plays if we can generate a lot of tokens in a turn. Using the mana to crack some clues and dig deeper is also a solid play. "},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"While "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Urza's Saga"}},{"insert":" is pricy, it is an excellent card in the deck since it makes the coveted \"Karnstruct\" token and can also tutor for some excellent pieces in the deck. While Sol Ring is always a viable target, the two best tutor choices are "},{"insert":{"card-link":"The Ozolith"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Retrofitter Foundry"}},{"insert":". The former is great if we are already online and making big Gremlins, while the latter is best tutored earlier in the game so we have an engine to start pumping out the tokens that we need. If you were to add in "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Amulet of Vigor"}},{"insert":" that would also be a potential target if the boardstate is right. "},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nEdit 01: 02/02/25\nPulling "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Svella, Ice Shaper"}},{"insert":" for the new "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Chandra, Spark Hunter"}},{"insert":". Removing "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Yotia Declares War"}},{"insert":" for the new "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Pia Nalaar, Chief Mechanic"}},{"insert":". Adding in "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Bootleggers' Stash"}},{"insert":", and taking out "},{"insert":{"card-link":"City of Death"}},{"insert":". Pulling "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Rise and Shine"}},{"insert":" for "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Stridehangar Automaton"}},{"insert":", which just feels perfect for this deck while Rise and Shine is a mediocre win condition. These all feel like strict upgrades. \n\nEdit 02: 02/21/25\nCutting "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Ozolith, the Shattered Spire"}},{"insert":" for "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Combine Chrysalis"}},{"insert":". The new Ozolith is not necessary and a little bit pricy, so I'm cutting it for a card that will help me close out the game. \n\nNext thoughts:\n\tWant to find space for 3 counterspells, maybe 2 tutors, and some slightly better removal. Maybe looking to cut 8 cards. The deck runs smoother than expected and is very fun to play in mid power pods. Having a blast with the variety of gameplay with all of the various engines and how the tokens interact together. \n\tThe deck is fun and leads to a lot of emergent game play with the unique combinations the board state can present. However, the deck has no win pressure since the pay off is basically just making a 6/6 trample that can't even attack the turn it comes down. I think that more thought needs to be put into the win condition. Combine Chrysalis has helped me close out a game, so I need more like this. I think that removing some of the more random token generators and focusing on the best ones (treasures, clues, food, powerstones, meteors, etc) will allow me to find room for cuts. I've labelled a few cards with orange tags that are on the chopping block to improve the counterspell + creature removal + tutor package in the deck. \n"}]}
